Gracious Lord, as you call us to yourself, you call us
into companionship with all your people.
Turn our hearts and our affections toward one another in charity, and
let our prayer answer your own, that we may all be one. Amen
St. Augustine’s Prayer Book
For Reflection
1) How would you answer the query put to the
early catechumens:
“How has your life been
transformed by Christianity?” Is this a
more difficult question than the alternative:
“What do you believe?” Why or why not?
2) Can
you think of an instance where the practice of Christianity has helped you more
fully understand a doctrine?
3) How
have you approached Lenten Disciplines and practice in the past? Consider the words of Evelyn Underhill: “ As to your Lent – no physical hardships
beyond what normal life provides – but take each of these serenely and
gratefully as you can and make of them your humble offerings to God.” How could this advice shape your Lenten journey?
