Proper 9

The Collect
Proper 9
O God, who hast taught us to keep all thy commandments by loving thee and our neighbor: Grant us the grace of thy Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to thee with our whole heart, and united to one another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
Preface of the Lord's Day

Old Testament Reading
Isaiah 66:10-16
10" Rejoice with Jerusalem, And be glad with her, all you who love her; Rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn for her; 11That you may feed and be satisfied With the consolation of her bosom, That you may drink deeply and be delighted With the abundance of her glory." 12For thus says the LORD: " Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, And the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream. Then you shall feed; On her sides shall you be carried, And be dandled on her knees. 13As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem." 14When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, And your bones shall flourish like grass; The hand of the LORD shall be known to His servants, And His indignation to His enemies. 15For behold, the LORD will come with fire And with His chariots, like a whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire. 16For by fire and by His sword The LORD will judge all flesh; And the slain of the LORD shall be many. -- NKJV
Psalm
Psalm 66
Jubilate Deo
1Be joyful in God, all you lands; *
     sing the glory of his Name;
     sing the glory of his praise.
2Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! *
     because of your great strength your enemies
     cringe before you.
3All the earth bows down before you, *
     sings to you, sings out your Name."
4Come now and see the works of God, *
     how wonderful he is in his doing toward all people.
5He turned the sea into dry land,
     so that they went through the water on foot, *
     and there we rejoiced in him.
6In his might he rules for ever;
     his eyes keep watch over the nations; *
     let no rebel rise up against him.
7Bless our God, you peoples; *
     make the voice of his praise to be heard;
8Who holds our souls in life, *
     and will not allow our feet to slip.
9For you, O God, have proved us; *
     you have tried us just as silver is tried.
10You brought us into the snare; *
     you laid heavy burdens upon our backs.
11You let enemies ride over our heads;
     we went through fire and water; *
     but you brought us out into a place of refreshment.
12I will enter your house with burnt-offerings
     and will pay you my vows, *
     which I promised with my lips
     and spoke with my mouth when I was in trouble.
13I will offer you sacrifices of fat beasts
     with the smoke of rams; *
     I will give you oxen and goats.
14Come and listen, all you who fear God, *
     and I will tell you what he has done for me.
15I called out to him with my mouth, *
     and his praise was on my tongue.
16If I had found evil in my heart, *
     the Lord would not have heard me;
17But in truth God has heard me; *
     he has attended to the voice of my prayer.
18Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer, *
     nor withheld his love from me.

New Testament Reading
Galatians 6:(1-10)14-18
(1Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5For each one shall bear his own load. 6Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. 7Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. )14But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. 16And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. 17From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. 18Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. -- NKJV

Gospel Reading
Luke 10:1-12,16-20
1After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. 2Then He said to them, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. 4Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road. 5But whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.' 6And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you. 7And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. 8Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. 9And heal the sick there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' 10But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11'The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.' 12But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city. 16He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me." 17Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." 18And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven." -- NKJV
